Something wicked this way comes...

My new favorite phrase. I actually just got done watching Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (after rereading it of course - now reading GoF). Was a freaking long day at work today. Started right away at 8am when I got there and didn't get to leave until 6pm. Granted there were a couple of times where I just sat around and did nothing because we had to wait for 2 hours for cells to incubate. But still... long.

At least tomorrow is Friday. Yay Friday! Of course that just means I work at Culver's instead but at least its a semi change in the routine. And I get to sleep in, which rocks.

Really starting to think I'm screwed. I didn't take any of the right courses for grad school and now there's not really enough time to make it up. So now I have even less of an idea of what to do after I graduate. So if, in a year or two, you see a ragged looking Kat on a street corner begging for money, please feel free to slap her for being such a dumbshit. Maybe I'll become a world-famous artist! Hey, it could happen.

Getting tired earlier and earlier these days. It's only 10:12 pm and I'm already thinking about going to sleep. I feel old. I used to never be able to sleep at night but sleep all morning/day. Granted I still practically sleep all morning/day but thats not the point! My snoozing during lectures at work isn't really sleeping, more like dozing off for short amounts of time.

Right so I'm getting tired and running out of things to bore you all with so I'm going to bed. Well actually I'm already in bed, but now I'm going to turn off my light and go to sleep. Strange phrase, "go to sleep." It's not really a place you go. Well I suppose you go to dreamland. Hmm. Too much thinking, goodnight!

Nothing

I have absolutely nothing to say. But it's been a couple days so I suppose it's time to say something. Wow all of a sudden I'm really craving an apple. Weird.

I saw Dark Knight with Hannah on Friday - it was totally and completely awesome! I also saw Rambo 4 at some point and man that movie is really gory. Not much of a plot, but the gore was fantastic.

I dogsat as well, a German shorthair named Haley who attacks other dogs that come near - including my baby Jazzy. Also finally started to finalize going to my Gramma's house from August 2-3, finally taking some days off and just going to have fun.

I miss Australia so much it hurts sometimes. The atmosphere was so much more carefree and relaxing. I wish I had worked there more though. I need to make my bed. And clean my room, its a total sty. I'm just not motivated to do anything but be a lazy slug and whine about how life was so much better in Australia. I really miss the people there too. I think it's mostly because I feel like I'll never see them again. It's one thing to miss someone that you know you'll see again soon enough, but much more depressing to realize you may never see these people again. Wow I really need to stop whining, but every once in awhile a person is allowed to whine a bit right? But I've probably used up my quota for this month.

Enough of that.

Well now I'm out of ideas of things to bitch about. Oh well, I'm going to bed.

Whoops

I actually forgot about having a blog, sad isn't it. I'm falling back into the old routine of living at home. Anyway, been working a lot this week, well no more than usual although at work we've actually been busy the whole day for almost the entire week, so it seems like I've done a lot more. I also stayed there late a couple days this week, and once last week. Today I was there until 5:30pm and I was one of the last people to leave the lab. Tobias (mentor #1) is seeing patients all week instead of being in the lab and Gini (mentor #2) had to leave early to pick up her kid from a swimming lesson. So I was left alone to finish up the cell staining part 2. Which was fine, just a bit stressful. I had to go meet a new dogsitting client at 6pm so I had to go there straight from the busstop, but luckily they live really close to me (and actually its the family of one of the girls I went to high school with, but we weren't very close or anything).

I'm kind of excited for tomorrow. I mean I have to work and then I have 2 different dogsitting duties to do but at some point I'm going to go see Dark Knight with Hannah. YAY WOO HOO. An old Batman movie is on TV right now... not really paying attention to it.

I started actually painting on my canvas on Tuesday and tonight I finished it. It's ok... not really fantastic but I like it well enough. I haven't decided what to do with it yet, it's kind of small to hang on a wall but I don't know what else to do with it. Wow I just saw a trailer for Mamma Mia on TV and it really made me want to go hang out at a beach and just be on vacation. I miss Cottesloe.

Oh and this week I've been reading/watching the Harry Potter series in order. I'm now on The Prisoner of Azkaban book, after reading the first and second book again and watching the first two movies as well. It's kind of fun, and I'm surprised I made it through the second book because that's usually where I get bored and just stop reading the series for awhile. This time it wasn't bad.

Yesterday was my Gramma's birthday and I talked to her on the phone for awhile. She tried to convince me to go abroad again sometime next year and of course I'd love to! Especiallly if she's paying lol. The current governor of California is in this movie. And back to Gramma... right I want to go spend a weekend at her house sometime this summer. I think it'd be fun to go on a nice long drive and be on vacation for a weekend.

Well I decided to skip Batman and Robin and watch Rambo IV instead. Adios!

I'm incredibly stupid

So I'm pretty stupid, at least I was this morning. I've been dogsitting these two dogs that live on the other side of town. So I woke up this morning around 9:30 am and headed over there to walk them and let them out etc. Got there, and realized I had stupidly forgotten to bring the keys to the house. And my phone. So I turned around and drove all the way back home. The keys were sitting on my kangaroo pouch thing that had my license and money in it and my check from Culvers. So I grabbed the pouch and the keys and then told Megan how stupid I was, and headed back to the dog sitting house. Got there, and for the second time realized that the keys weren't with what I had. I was very confused because I distinctly remembered grabbing the keys. Apparently I had put them on my bed and didn't pick them back up when I went to get the stuff. So after cursing myself thoroughly, I called Megan and she found the keys and eventually agreed to meet me halway with them. But yes, that was my complete stupidity of the day. Granted, the day is still young but hopefully nothing I do will top that little move.

Wednesday I don't really remember much of work, except I went to two separate lectures. After work I went home first and then headed over to the dogsitting house to let the dogs in and feed and walk them. After that I headed over to play Flamingo Bingo with Jackie and Kate. That was pretty fun, even though none of us won anything (other than Kate winning a dobber - right after I bought one).

Thursday sucked. Mom drove me over to let the dogs out then dropped me off at work at about 7:45 am. Did some experiments then in the afternoon I went to work on a staining/imaging project with someone in another lab. I was going to learn the procedure so then I could teach the people in my lab how to do it. The other people in the lab didn't get in until 10am so they didn't realize that I'd been there for 10 hours by 6pm. We didn't get to a good stopping point until 7pm. That really sucked, so I called Sara to come pick me up and take me to the dogsitting place so I could let the dogs in for the night and walk them and feed them in the opposite order. Went to Culver's on the way home to get food and check my schedule - I have to work there on Sunday 11-4, which isn't bad.

On Friday mom drove me to the dogsitting house again where I let them outside for the day. At work I didn't do anything until 10:30 when I headed over to the other lab to work on the staining. At around 11am we got to a part where the stain had to set for an hour, so during that time I went and ate my lunch. Got back, we went back to work on it, and then when we only had one step left, their lab decided to go to lunch. Apparently they didn't eat earlier when we had an hour to wait. So I had to just sit around for another hour doing nothing while they all ate. Finally we finished that and then I did a little mini-experiment all on my own (yay me) and finally got to go home around 4pm. That was frustrating because I wanted to go home early to compensate for Thursday, and while 4 is early by 30 minutes... its not early enough.

Saturday is today and that means I did the stupid stuff. After that I came home and watched the end of Happy Feet and Flushed Away just finished. Been writing this while watching them. Happy Feet is such a good/cute movie! Now the Simpson's Movie is starting so I think I'm going to go do something else... not sure what yet.

SHIT!

So... just to release this newfound anger, I'M ANGRY!! My stupid dog took two shits all over the basement on the carpet and its smushed into it not just easy-pick-upable poo but smushed down into the carpet fibers. And its 1:15 am and I have to clean it before my family gets home tomorrow and I don't know what time they get home tomorrow meaning I should do it tonight aka right now but instead I'm writing a tiny little blog being pissed off about it. That's the last time I leave her unhooked for the day. Grrr.

I did spleens and femurs again today at work. At the same time... which made things more interesting. After work met with a lady - going to dogsit for her Wednesday (later today) - Sunday. Yay more money. Which makes me want to quit Culver's, and I seriously think I will. That's enough, I've got shit to take care of (literally).

Getting lost and nearly fireworked

So on Friday the 4th of July, my entire family (without Jazzy) and Megan's bf Brian headed down to Lanesboro to go tubing down the Root River. The instructions for where to get out were not explained well, so although we were having tons of fun, we somehow missed the correct exit. We weren't sure how or when to get out and ended up floating for an extra hour and a half until we found a place to get out, borrowed someones phone, and called for a pick up. That was exciting although the extra time meant we all got a bit sunburnt. There's netting on the front of my suit and I didn't put sunscreen on my stomach so that got incredibly burnt, which isn't fun.

Finally after we got through that ordeal (lost on the Root River), we headed back to Rochester. Then I headed over to take care of the dogsitting thing, and then went to my parent's friends house to set off fireworks. They had some illegal ones that shoot into the air, and once one of them fell over and started shooting fireworks at ground level around in circles. At any time one of them could have shot at us so we all ran for it and hid behind cars. Luckily none of them hit anything (we were shooting them off in a park).

Went back to my dogsitting place and spent the night there in an armchair in my sleeping bag, reading Eldest. Saturday was spent mostly dogsitting, but at the end of the day Sara and I went to see Wanted at the cinema. It was pretty good, at least I really enjoyed it.

This morning I woke up and decided I could not bring myself to work at Culver's all day today, so I called in sick and decided to take a me-day. Mom, Dad, Megan, and Sara all headed out at 6am this morning to go Up North until Wednesday night, leaving me here alone. Well, with Jazzy. So I'm not quite sure what all I'll be doing this week other than working a lot. But after work I'll probably just be lazy. I'm considering inviting Jackie over for a night, then we can just go to Mayo together in the morning. Well that's enough for now...

Lung chunks and reading

So I know I just updated this a couple days ago but I did a lot of cool stuff yesterday. I won't go through all the boring stuff but I did ride my bike to the Wal-mart parking lot and caught the bus there. Got to work and we were going to start my project by harvesting and culturing dendritic cells from mouse bone marrow. Which meant we needed to get the bone marrow out of the mice. So Gini took one mouse and I took another (Tobias euthanized them - they just fell asleep). We had to chop off their back legs, strip off the skin and muscle and then squirt the marrow out of the bones. Then used the marrow cells to make DC cultures and now they're happily growing in the incubator. Tomorrow I have to change the media that they're in *so they don't run out of food* then next Monday I have to start doing the actual experiments on them. So that happened in the morning, then some other labby type stuff and then in the afternoon Gini and I went over to St. Mary's to pick up a lung cancer tumor and part of normal lung tissue that came with it. When we got back to the lab Gini chopped the tumor bit into chunks and I did the normal tissue bit. That was fun.

Today was not so much fun. Gini had taken the day off because it was her daughter's birthday and Tobias had to see patients for about half the day, so while he was gone I was left alone with nothing to do but read papers and the textbook. Every once in awhile I'd jump on the computer and check email and stuff but it was sooo slow and monotonous. Luckily he let me go home early (around 3:45pm) but I just missed the bus so I had to wait for like 20 minutes for the next one. So I just read Eragon until it came. And while I was on it. And then for awhile after I got home.

Had to pick up Megan from work so then we (Megs and I) went to Applebee's for dinner afterward. I only ate half my burger and I'm still stuffed! I'd forgotten how good it was there. Now I'm watching TMNT - hehe. Turtlepower! I was going to try to watch Rambo 4 (apparently it's super gorey) but this was on OnDemand and I just had to see it. April kicks ass. Yea so it just ended and now its time for me to get some sleep, hopefully I actually go to sleep now instead of staying up until 1:30 am like I have been all week. Sigh. Well at least tomorrow is my last day for the week, then I get Friday and Saturday off. Unfortunately I have to work at Culver's on Sunday, that's going to suck big time. But we might go down to Lanesboro on Friday morning and go tubing down the Root River so that'll be fun. Well, bedtime for me!
